My training and experience in psychology and psychotherapy have been focused on both psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, and mindfulness-based approaches (the "third-wave" of CBT).
Psychodynamic psychotherapy emphasizes self-reflection, self-exploration, and the development of insight into the historical roots of problematic patterns that are often beyond one's awareness. Improved self-awareness leads to better understanding of current-day problems and their causes, which often results in a better ability to lead a more fulfilling life.
Mindfulness-based approaches examine the causes and conditions that lead to emotional suffering and use that insight to soften one's relationship to the innately painful or dissatisfying experience of living in a world that is constantly shifting and changing. Learning how to develop a peaceful relationship with oneself and the nature of one's existence, moment by moment, can help release one from unnecessary suffering.
